Know who is providing the tow
Ask for the company identity and driver certification information. Ontario publishes operator certificate status and maximum rates online. Match the details on the paperwork to the operator providing the service. Keep a copy with your vehicle records.
Read the consent document
Generally, you choose the towing company and destination and must consent, subject to official-direction and restricted-zone exceptions. Niagara Police advise reviewing the consent document and never signing a blank form. Check that the destination and operator details reflect the arrangement you understand.
Review rates and the invoice
Review the operator's maximum rate schedule before work. Ontario requires rates to be posted on an operator's website and prohibits charges above those maxima and fuel surcharges. An itemized invoice should identify the services and costs before payment. Keep the receipt.
Keep questions and records together
Save the estimate, consent document, invoice and relevant correspondence. Write down the question you want resolved and contact the operator with the specific item. Ontario's consumer guidance links to its complaint process. A general website enquiry is separate from formal towing consent and dispatch confirmation.
